Espresso Coffee
Espresso Quick History
Espresso Coffee was invented in 1903 by Italian Luigi Bezzera, who owned a factory. Luigi Bezzera wanted to find a faster way to brew the coffee. After many tests he conducted after work, one day, he added pressure to the coffee brewing technique, which resulted in reduced brewing time. The machine that Mr. Bezzera invented was called the “Fast Coffee Machine”, from which the italian word “espresso” (fast in italian) comes from. Luigi Bezzera was so amazed by his own machine that it was not long before he told others about his machine, which reduced brewing time drastically and it made a better coffee.
The fast brewing time allowed the best properties of the coffee bean to be extracted, preventing some of the adverse qualities related with over-extraction. Regardless of his huge efforts, Luigi Bezzera was not lucky enough to make everyone aware of his amazing coffee machine, and he went almost broke.
Another italian man, Desidero Pavoni bought the patent rights to the espresso coffee machine around 1905 and successfully presented espresso to the Italian people. Old Photographs from the turn of the century depict Italian Kiosks serving “CAFE ESPRESSO - LA PAVONI”. This was a very popular spot in Italy. Mr. Pavoni changed the way Italians drink coffee forever.
The Espresso fever is now taking over the whole world.
Thank You Italia!
